Graham Towers became committed to community politics in the early 1970s. The need to engage users in the design of their own buildings and neighbourhoods has influenced his work over 30 years. As a housing architect this has included his work with co-operatives, with tenants organiisations on the regeneration of social housing estates and the development of housing through new-build and conversion. As a chartered Town Planner he has taken an interest in environmentally sensitive developments, transport issues and conservation. At the centre of this work has been an ongoing commitment to the theory and practice of participatory democracy and it egalitarian effects.
